Uzbekistan

Uzbekistan has a population of over 29 million. Uzbekistan is among the world’s leading cotton producers and is known for its orchards and vineyards. It is also known for raising Karakul sheep and silkworms.

Its economy depends heavily on agricultural production. Uzbekistan has diversified the agricultural sector to develop animal husbandry, poultry farming, fish farming, horticulture, gardening and beekeeping.

17-20% of the food energy consumed in Uzbekistan comes from crops that are not native to the region. Most of these plants’ diversity is found elsewhere on the planet.
